Development wasn’t receiving proper requirements for accessibility (such as proper tab order, detailed image alt text, focus state specifications, etc.) with the designs. There are so many people here who are actively working to improve our teams, solutions, and client experiences alongside internal efforts like the playbook. I see a deep sense of responsibility in the design community to steward design thinking and the design practice in a way that will benefit the larger opportunity to provide our world with better solutions and outcomes. A dedicated DesignOps role provides for differentiated ROI correlating directly to the business needs and design team outcomes. We talk a lot about products, services, and outcomes, but let’s not forget that the people are the ones behind them all.

In this role, I seek to measure and track success by aligning directly to the business outcomes that our team is tasked to achieve in delivering world-class design. Over time, I am contributing key insights and metrics that help shape and further build the maturity of DesignOps best practices across the company. As this solution is still a work in progress, I won’t be going into further detail about the specifics. My team and I dove into online resources and learning modules through IBM’s learning hub to gain domain knowledge on Accessibility. At the core, Enterprise Design Thinking has three main principles that have given me a deeper appreciation for what it means to be a designer and a better understanding of how to be successful in a large organization. Most were new grads fresh out of school while others were transitioning from other career paths.

In the first week, we jumped right into learning sessions on topics ranging from Carbon (IBM’s design system) to career talks given by senior designers on various topics including discipline growth, soft skills, and IBM as a business. Our IBMers are growth minded, always staying curious, open to feedback and learning new information and skills to constantly transform themselves and our company. They are trusted to provide on-going feedback to help other IBMers grow, as well as collaborate with colleagues keeping in mind a team focused approach to include different perspectives to drive exceptional outcomes for our customers.
Through big transformations and day-to-day tasks, we help them get from here to there to deliver peak professional performance and smarter business by design. Deployable architecture (DA) refers to a specific design pattern or approach that allows an application or system to be easily deployed and managed across various environments. A deployable architecture involves components, modules and dependencies in a way that allows for seamless deployment and makes it easy for developers and operations teams to quickly deploy new features and updates to the system, without requiring extensive manual intervention. There was a clear opportunity for IBM to shape public opinion around computing technology in 1956 when newly installed CEO Thomas Watson Jr. hired Eliot Noyes to develop the company’s first corporatewide design initiative. It is impossible to overstate the impact of this comprehensive design program on modern corporate branding practice. To make data visualization distinctive as IBM products, there are multiple elements, components and features to consider because, together, they all contribute to a functional and effective representation of data.

She has 19 years of experience in design thinking and agile transformation, program management, instructional design, metrics, facilitation, coaching, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Day one of my IBM career started with sixty or so dewy designers coming from all over the country — landing in Austin, Texas, which would become the flagship location for the renewed IBM design program. I was joining IBM, but I knew what I was really joining was a movement to spread the value of a human-centered approach in order to solve for some of the most complex problems in the world. And just to name a few, we’re talking about solutions like improving diabetic care with AI, proactively managing data security threats, and making our world go ‘round with powerful transaction systems capable of running more than 12 billion encrypted transactions per day. Underlying this, the mission to “create a sustainable culture of design” was the song and beat of our drums.
